Freedom Song is a HOME PORT foray into the dark, soulful realm of Porter Smith's fretless bass as lead accompaniment to Meirav Eytan's deep and exulting solo vocal.
HOME PORT is a World vocal trio based in New York City. Porter Smith composes, accompanies on 7-string guitar, 10-string guitar, and fretless bass, and sings tenor with international vocal sensation Meirav Eytan. Varying guest sopranos continue to join the HOME PORT vision of bridging distances between people and places, sharing the stage and the progressive, romantic songs of peace and protest with Porter and Meirav. Pianist Hunter Gibson and percussionist Chris Howard form the backing band that complements HOME PORT's dark, dreamy, exuberant sound.
This second studio album is a World vocal trio treasure of exuberant, hauntingly seductive song and spirit.
Home Port is a 2017 Akademia Award-winning World vocal trio. Composer/accompanist/tenor Porter Smith, alto Meirav Eytan, and guest soprano Christina Kay share new song and spirit with a stunning ensemble in Home Port 2: Piano, Wurlitzer, and string arrangements by Hunter Gibson, Electric Guitar by Chad Walsh, Percussion by Chris Howard, and Porter on 7-string and 10-string acoustic guitars and fretless bass. Bassist Pete Donovan and drummer/percussionist Joe Bonadio join the band for one of Meirav's solos, Falling. Porter's affection for the female voice is reflected more than ever in the album's respective solos and three duets for the women of the Home Port trio. The sound of the three Home Port voices in inventive, liberated harmony beckons ancient corridors, enchanted hills, and heavenly realms.
HOME PORT is a romantic and progressive World vocal trio, singing protest songs that soothe and stir the soul.
House of Tomorrow is HOME PORT's second full-length recorded song cycle. Based in New York City, the tenor/alto/soprano trio is forging a fellowship with listeners, those who want meaning in music. Alto Meirav Eytan, soprano Christina Kay, and composer, accompanist, and tenor Porter Smith fulfill the ancient role of travelers of song and story as they fill up spaces with protest, romance, meditation, and mysticism.
An exuberant, romantic, progressive tenor, alto, soprano vocal trio.
Porter Smith's musical life is an overflow of finely woven melodies, odd rhythms, ancient, romantic sensibility, and lilting voices. His regard for the female voice is apparent throughout his twenty year career, but never so realized as in his newest CD release, HOME PORT. In this effort, Porter presents a new song cycle and becomes the tenor and 7-string guitar accompanist of a vocal trio, featuring soprano Megan Longwell, alto Victoria Marga, and cellist Patricia Santos. The result is a classically-spirited singers' showcase that beckons '70s folk, Baroque, and heralds a progressive form that Porter calls 'Oomaloo'. Oomaloo is a fictitious seaside place - the land of seven waterfalls - where the natural, native music is in a balanced but odd rhythm, and the vocal expressions are shared by male and female alike. This is the spirit of HOME PORT, a long-lived musical dream of Porter's that he seems to have fulfilled in 2013.
A song of peace in memory of Pete Seeger.
Meirav Eytan sings Spark with a passion so palpable that any listener would entertain the concept of music's potential to change his or her world. The emotional curve of the song is constant as Meirav's charged vocals warm and sear their way toward self-discovery and a distinct hope for humanity. Spark's melody is uncommon and contagious, infusing modal moments that remind us that the path of peace is not a predictable one.
A singer and song of breathtaking intimacy.
Meirav Eytan courts a timeless romance with her voice. Her singing style is rare in its warmth and intimacy, beckoning flesh and spirit. In her collaboration with composer Porter Smith, Meirav demonstrates her natural gift of interpretation, making every word and every note of Impossible entirely her own.
A fresh musical perspective on being blue.
Megan Longwell lends her multi-colored voice to this Broadway Pop tribute to being blue. So relentless is the pace at times in this exuberant song about sorrow that the listener is likely to be left exhilarated, idealizing many shades of blue - the sky, the sea, the whale, the flame, the dress, the moon, the bird, the berry...
Megan Longwell's voice roams somewhere between the modern world stage and a mythic sirens' shore. A Better Place, her debut single, allows her to tell the story of an orphan girl and infuse it with seemingly limitless emotional and vocal intensity.
Megan Longwell was born into a Broadway family and spent some of her earliest years on the road with her singing parents. She is the versatile soprano voice of HOME PORT, a New York City based vocal trio with Israeli alto Meirav Eytan and composer/tenor Porter Smith. Collaborators on A Better Place include pianist Hunter Gibson, drummer Sam Wagner, and bassist Greg Schettino.
